Multi-view Drawings

I made a cow out of clay and I put it in the glass box. Then I was able to draw with marker on the box and see actual perspectives.

Multi-view Drawings

The purpose of construction lines is to give the drawing structure and proportion. The object lines are the actual lines of the object. The purpose of hidden lines is to represent part of the object that can not be seen from that particular view.  Center lines are to define the glass box around the object. Multiview drawings are useful and easier to understand.

Color Theory

  

This is my color wheel. It includes 3 primary, 3 secondary, and 6 tertiary colors. 

Primary Colors: Red, yellow and blue

In traditional color theory primary colors are the 3 pigment colors that can not be mixed or formed by any combination of other colors.
Secondary Colors: Green, orange and purple
These are the colors formed by mixing the primary colors.
Tertiary Colors: Yellow-orange, red-orange, red-purple, blue-purple, blue-green & yellow-green
These are the colors formed by mixing a primary and a secondary color.

Color scheme is a combination or arrangement of colors to form different shades like the ones shown above.
Monochromatic colors are all the colors (tints, tones, and shades). The Monochromatic schemes are extended shades from a single color  They mostly have shades which are whiter and blacker.

                                                     

Analogous colors are colors that are next to each other in a group. One of the colors is usually primary or secondary and the two next to it are usually tertiary.

Complementary colors are colors opposite to each other on the color wheel. Their contrast creates a vibrant look.                       

                                                     

A Triad color scheme uses colors that are evenly spaced around the color wheel.

                                                         

The split-complementary color scheme is a variation of the complementary color scheme. In addition to the first color, it uses the two colors next to its complement.

The Problem:School Nutrition
Too many students use the vending machine for an alternative to lunch.
Healthier chips but still chips.
No options for healthy food.
The Solution: Store-able Snacks
There should be healthy snacks that can be stored in the vending machines.
A sudden change to all healthy foods will discourage students from eating at all so replace only a few snacks so students can choose.
There should be a school garden to inspire healthy eating.

What I learned from the guest speaker. 
We asked him how his daily work day was, his salary, what inspired him to go into design, how he works with the engineers, etc. I learned more about the actual job of a designer and it helped me think about whether designing was something I would like to do for a living.

Revised Concept Sketch

This is my final concept sketch of a healthy vending machine. I came up with this concept because I feel as though students'  health is very important. In my vending machine I am offering snacks such as apple dippers, trail mix, chocolate covered nuts and fruits, etc. I designed the vending machine similar to the one we have now but with a cooling system that would keep the fruits and vegetables fresh.

School Nutrition Concept Mapping

This is my concept map of school nutrition, I think this is an issue in our school that we need to fix. Although healthy options may be offered in the cafeteria, many students usually turn to vending machines for quick and easy snacks or drinks. Vending machines are filled with cookies and chips. People may think they are healthy in comparison to other snacks but chips are still chips and cookies are still cookies. In other words, they are still unhealthy and they should be replaced with options like fruits and vegetables. A few snacks are okay but kids should have the option to buy healthy foods if they would like. One way to get kids interested in healthy eating would be to have a school garden.This way kids would know they are eating fresh foods and they can get involved in helping out with the garden.

Above a few options for vending machines are shown. These snacks can be packaged and they are still healthy.

Problems in the community

A few problems I would like to research and solve are the following:

1. You Are What You Eat (Addresses School Food/Nutrition) 
2. Protect Our Green Space, Recycle
3. Put seat belts on buses 

I think helping solve these issues will make our community better. 

What Emotions Do Lines Communicate

In the picture above I drew a zebra because they have many lines. I think that lines communicate emotions such as calmness and business. When there are more lines the picture is more busy and when there are less the picture is cleaner. Curved lines can look more natural and straight lines can appear more neat and organized.

During this week we made drawings using different techniques with lines. Some of these techniques included structural, outline, gesture,cross hatching and contour drawing. Outline drawings do not have depth.Contour drawings have a little more information. Gestural drawings are trying to show what the object is doing. Structural drawings have more value and there are different values of one color. Also in structural drawings there are more lines.
